The company was started in 1884 by Lyman Cornelius Smith, and while his well-built side-by-sides attracted hunters, they failed to hold the attention of Smith, who became captivated by a new-fangled device that would become the Smith-Corona typewriter. Smith has long reigned supreme as the only American-made hammerless sidelock. I like that it feels smaller and lighter than my other shotgun and a little more manageable since I've never been described as very muscular if you know what I mean.L.C.

I guess if it is on the lower end then I will feel no apprehension of shooting it more. If anybody could give me a general idea of what makes these LC Smith shotguns more or less valuable I would be greatly appreciated. Got to buy some shells so I can actually shoot it. There is some small amount of pitting in one barrel.
#LC SMITH SHOTGUNS VALUE SERIAL NUMBER#
It has a nice patina but not much original finish left and locks up tight, 30 inch barrels and has a 5 digit serial number (manufactured 1924 if what I could fine on is correct). I've cleaned it up since those last pictures were taken. I like to keep a listing of generally what my guns are worth in case my wife ever has to sell them when I am gone (which hopefully will not be for many many many decades but you never know). These are just listing prices and I have no idea what people actually sell these for. I've been researching these Hunter Arms LC Smith shotguns (specifically 12 Gauge Field Grade) and the price range seems all over the place from $425 up to $2100. The only shotgun I own was given to me by this same grandfather right before he died. Sentimental value can make anything priceless but it I always find that knowing something of sentimental value also has inherent value in and of itself can only increase that sentimental value. I will start this off by saying I have no intention of ever selling this rifle so this is not a thinly veiled WTS request. Marlin made them until 1950, then tried a short revival from 1967 to 1972. The LC Smith line wasn't sold to Marlin until 1945. LC went on to found the typewriter company that became Smith Corona. Hunter also made some good boxlocks under the Fulton name. There was a major change in models in 1913, but it was really the same design, and Hunter made them up to 1945. and ran it with his 6 sons, starting production in 1890. The hammerless design of 1886 was very successful, but in 1888 Smith sold either the whole company, machinery and all, or just the manufacturing rights to John Hunter Sr, of Fulton NY, who set up Hunter Arms Co. (yours truly went to the L C Smith College of Engineering, Syracuse University) LC then hired on his younger brother Wilbert and designer Alexander T Brown and changed the name to L.C. Then in 1880 Baker and Leroy Smith left and founded Ithaca Gun Company. Baker & Co., and manufactured guns under that name for 3 years. LC Smith sold out to Hunter very early so there were only a couple of years production of "true" L C Smith hammerless guns. The confusion with Ithaca comes from Lyman Cornelius Smith's older brother, Leroy. to remember his grand father.but he didn't have the money.fell in love with the wood.he speakers of it today.< dk Or go hole hog.in memory of your grandfather. Two angles presented.leave alone tighten wood.inside use as is! If it ant loose in the action, pitted in chambers bore, cracked wood.
